How to Stay Safe While Working in a Railroad Industry
Railroad industries are in charge of railways. They ensure safe movement of freight and people. Working in the railroad industry is a dangerous job, but it's also an important one.
Here are some ways to stay safe when working in a railroad industry :
- When crossing, always use designated crossing points.
- If you have to work on the track, make sure there's ample warning for all approaching trains.
- Be aware of your surroundings at all times—listen and look out for oncoming trains. As you move through the yard-it's easy to get distracted and lose sight of an approaching train.
- Never walk behind a moving train or car, even when they are travelling at low speeds and don't stand between two cars that are being moved by a locomotive.
- Always be aware of the clearance zone around the train.
- Never climb over or under stationary equipment.
- Wear proper PPE always, including ear protection and long sleeves, to avoid injury from debris thrown by the locomotives.
- Never jump off moving equipment, it's very risky.
- Tie down or secure objects before transporting them always. Loose items can fall or become projectiles if they're not secured properly, so you should always take appropriate measures.
