Most scalpers tend to scalp when the market is calm or mostly in a range, they trade from a supply to a demand zone or they trade a breakout in the price action, it depends on their type of strategy and what works for them, but if you don't have the opportunity or time to actually trade during these silent times, how can you trade during volatile times.

The best way to trade during volatile times is to actually use a very tight stops and target a few pips, by using a tight stop even when slippage occurs it would be minimal.

Taking profits is not as important as protecting your account during market's volatile moves, you have to be in the game before you can profit from the game.

There is need for a disciplined approach to succeed in scalping an unpredictable forex market. Tips to consider are: trading highly liquid pairs such as EUR/USD or GBP/USD enhances chances of success and profitability; using shorter timeframes like 1 or 5-minute chart increases the frequency of trades; having strategies with clear entry and exit points supported by technical indicators such as moving averages or Bollinger Bands; and finally setting tight stop-loss orders for effective risk management. With these, one can capitalize on quick price movements while surviving the unstable nature of volatile markets. Adhering to these tips may increase your likelihoods of succeeding in scalping within a volatile forex market.

On the other hand, if we consider a volatile market or highly volatile pairs, for example, XAUUSD, then it will not be possible to set short stop losses due to the high volatility of this instrument - they will constantly be triggered and cause losses. Here you need the right stop losses and on highly volatile pairs they will not be small, but reasonable. Therefore, if we are talking about short stop losses, then we need to trade less volatile pairs and not trade during the publication of serious news from the economic calendar.

For scalping trading you have to pay attention to market volatility, each pair has different price behavior characteristics so choosing a pair for scalping needs to pay attention to this like gold which tends to have high volatility, using a stop loss that is too tight is often less effective for scalping. Apart from that, market trends are also a concern, following the main trend can reduce potential losses.

In a highly changeable and violent market, scalping can be challenging but following certain strategies may improve one’s chances of success. For instance, it is necessary to know the market conditions as well as current trends and news of any kind that can influence price developments. You must keep an eye on the market analysis and news sources for you to find out where the trades are. Plan prior to trading by laying down specific points of entry exit strategy, price objectives and stop loss orders. The use of technical indicators like Moving Averages, Bollinger bands, RSI and Stochastic Oscillators can help identify trends and fluctuations. Watch your trades closely by exiting them as soon as possible if necessary while at the same time reducing position via stop-loss orders and even decreasing size does help in managing risk too. Preventing impulsive decisions requires keeping emotions under control. Consistency in following through on your trade plan is important for successful scalping.
