Fake listings and rental scams are real and as a property buyer you would need to know this so that you can protect yourself. Fraudsters know that some people are always seeking to buy property so they post property rental ads on social media or Craigslist to attract unsuspecting buyers

They also even use photos from other listings with no link to the property or its owner and now ask for an upfront payment to let a buyer inspect the property or hold the money as a deposit.

All of that is a scam they just want to get quick cash through criminal means and if you are not careful you fall a victim

So it is expedient to know about this listing scam and try to protect yourself against it.

So how can you protect yourself against it.

To avoid this scam try to do a research about a property listing and get all details of the transaction that will be carried out in writing.

Be wary of anyone that asks for a cash deposit upfront to see a property. it might just be a scam
Try to find out the real property owner before negotiating rental terms or seeing a property in person.

Then go ahead to search the local property appraiser’s website to ascertain the real property owner and get the contact information online.
