Channels is pretty much like a trendline but the difference is in a channel it goes both ways, as we all know in a downtrend, you will draw a trendline from the bottom, connect lows and anticipate when market come to your line you'll take a position, but in a channel which works more in a ranging market, so instead of just putting a line below you'll draw on top the pattern.
This way you'll be able to sell when it is high and buy when it is low, I think you'll be able benefit both ways instead of just looking at it one way.
