The first thing you have to understand is that no matter the basis for your employment in that position, you would never be able to efficiently deliver in that organization. Then you have to study the role you have been employed in and deduce the skill set needed to deliver in that position. Then the hard part is to be humble enough to learn. Some people are not humble enough to seek knowledge. They feel they know everything. It is called teachability. If you are teachable, you would easily get the skills for that role because people would find it easy to teach and assist you.
Another thing I have to say is that you might have to pay for a course that would help you get the skills for that job. Some people don't like spending their money to acquire knowledge. You might have to buy the truth. You might spend a premium to get knowledge.

The first thing to do would be to make research on the available skills be it offline or online needed to promote your business, the next would be to take up classes, courses and seminars om these skills. The reasons why most persons do not grow in their field is cause they assume their boss or manager would be the one to assist them but the truth of the matter is not all bosses would be willing to do this, cause they feel once you become extremely good at what you do, you would look for a better place with a higher pay.
