How is metaverse Going to Change the World?

As a matter of fact, it is hard to figure out all possible changes and scenarios that a break-through technology is going to trigger in the world, and yet more so given that it doesn’t even exist yet (apart from isolated implementations)
That said, we can still try our luck at outlining several directions along which the Metaverse is set to change the world as it becomes the next step in the evolution of social interaction. With the Covid-19 pandemic not going anywhere (and whoever knows what’s to come next), the obvious development is toward less communication in person, with or without the Metaverse
Further, a virtual reality may indeed take after the real world, but it is in no way limited by its laws and restrictions.
Then, the big shots like Epic Games and Disney have already gotten in on the idea of connecting the physical and digital worlds, although they appear to be more interested in their own virtual game environments following their own storylines (as opposed to the “generic” one).
Since the Metaverse will most certainly be powered by an advanced AI, it will be possible to communicate “in person” with the AI (like Eddie in Altered Carbon) and build relationships and friendships with entities that don’t exist in the real world. And the most dramatic impact that the Metaverse could ever deliver on our core values and society at large is by enabling people to actually transfer their consciousness into the virtual reality and allowing them to live on in a purely digital form, ideally forever.
Perhaps, this is what Mark Zuckerberg has been planning for the Metaverse all along.
