How do you deal with in-fighting among staff in an organization.

Human beings are emotional beings. And sometimes, they allow their emotions to get over them. And when this happens in a workplace, it can lead to infighting among the staff. This can lead to friction in relationships and malice among them. How do you deal with this as part of a management team?

Some people think that the best thing to do is to sack the staff involved in the infighting so that they would not damage the spirit of the organization. Others think the best approach is to counsel and advice the staff on the need for peaceful coexistence.

I have been in an organization where staff are always at loggerheads with each other. The owner of the organization once sacked everyone in the organization and told everyone to reapply and before you are re-employed, you would have to sign an undertaking not to engage in such. That did not stop anything. The infighting only became a cold war.
 
Like they say, prevention is better than cure. I think the best thing to do is to try as much as possible to prevent it. I personally believe this can be done by setting out rules and regulations before hiring your staffs. Let them know what happens if they are ever involved in this and as what what action they need to take if they find themselves in such a situation. This would not completely stop the infighting but would definitely reduce it to a certain level. Cause truth be told, like you said we are humans so there is every possibility that they would be misunderstandings.
 
Fighting in the workplace by employees shows indiscipline and insubordination and as such, such habit shouldn't be taken lightly by the management of the company or workplace because if it is allowedby them then violence might just be the order of the day so a penalty or punishment should be meted out to the indisciplined employees involved so that it will serve as a deterrent to others who want to tow the same line

Secondly, beforehand the workplace or company should aput in place a rule of no fighting in the company or workplace some human beings believe in violence and that the only way they can settle with issues or disputes is by going violent or abusive on the other person so this must be a policy before that there should be no issue of fighting among employees and there should be an office where all disputes or issues should be reported.
