How Businesses and Countries Make Money During the War

Ever since Russia invaded Ukraine, a lot of things have happened. It is estimated that 7-15 thousand Russian soldiers have died and over 1000 Ukrainian civilians have died. This is not just the dead count of the loss of lives, it is a loss of many things. Imagine the money Russians have invested in those soldiers, imagine the money Russians spent in war. Imagine the loss economy in Ukraine.

Do you know why oil prices are increasing? That’s because Russia is one of the biggest oil suppliers. Do you know why food prices are increasing? That’s because Ukrainian is one of the world’s biggest food producers.

War is also a time to make money for some countries. Countries that are not directly involved in the war will benefit a lot due to the war because they will start selling weapons and other logistics to the countries that are at war.

I don’t know how true it is but when it became eminent that Russians will attack Ukraine, it was reported that there was a conference in the United States where the arms dealers and weapon manufactures gathered to talk about selling their weaponry in Ukraine and profiting from the war.

War does not just affect two countries that are fighting, war affects globally in terms of economy and social harmony. War is a business.

There are businesses and individuals who always try to profit from every situation. Food prices in my country have gone really up. When asked the retailers say, the wholesalers are selling for a higher price, when wholesalers are asked they will say producers are selling for a higher price, when you go to producers (farmers), you will see they are not selling for the high price, they are selling for the same price which was before the beginning of the war, yet the consumers are paying more without any valid reasons. Businesses and individuals are trying to take undue advantage of the situation. This is just one small example. Russians and Ukrainians are at war but a lot of countries, businesses, and even individuals are profiting. Due to the vestige interest, the war could continue for a long time because businesses will be profiting from this war. When a lot of countries condemned Russia for attacking Ukraine, India and China abstained from condemning Russia. Do you know why? They have a vestige interest in the war. India even bought crude oil from Russia for 20 percent less than the market price because Russia was offering discounts due to Europe and America's sanctions.
