At the ETH Shanghai Web 3.0 Developer Summit, Vitalik Buterin predicted ETH's transition to Proof-of-Stake is likely to take place in August this year.

At the Permissionlles Conference, Ethereum Core Developer Preston Van Loon expressed the possibility of a merge for ETH in August. After Buterin's claim, it seems that everything is going according to the plan in the Ethereum blockchain.

The biggest opponents of Ethereum becoming a POS are ETH miners who make huge profits in the form of gas fees. If ETH stop being the POW, its mining will also stop, which will stop the profit of miners.

It is difficult to say how credible this announcement is. This new development of ETH has been claimed for a long time, but there have been several delays and postponements that have left many disappointed.

The last time the announcement of the completion of the merge was made in June itself, with this new announcement only the date has been extended.
