Do recruiters and employers conduct online research on you?

The short response is: yes, most likely. Employers and recruiters will likely conduct a Google search on you. When they do, they should have a positive impression of you. You shouldn't panic and try to completely delete yourself from the internet as a result of this. All things being equal, you need to ensure they don't coincidentally find any humiliating photographs or posts.

Keep in mind that even if recruiters can't find any information about you online, they will: a) be puzzled as to why; b) lack a clear understanding of your personality and identity.

Some people even discard job applications from candidates they cannot locate online, as we have been told. When looking for a job, taking care of your online reputation is more important than you might think. Do you think it's as easy to make a professional online profile as it is to delete drunk selfies from Instagram? That is a commendable beginning, but there is much more to it than that. When applying for a new job, you should always prioritize creating an outstanding CV. But don't forget that the recruitment process also heavily relies on your entire online presence.

The trick is not to hide yourself, but rather to create a profile on the internet that will impress potential employers. In my series "How to create a professional brand online," you'll learn how.
