One of the most important key performance indicators in a website is the amount of traffic that is coming from search . With this you can understand why a lot of people usually inject a lot of money and time into ensuring that they rank a very good score in a particular word or within their own category. Search engine optimisation is something that you cannot use a day in order to perfectly actualizat but it has to be a set of continuous hard work and some people usually get it wrong .

1. Search engine optimization changes. Just like the way the world is changing and social media algorithms are always changing that is the same way that search engine optimisation algorithms is to. You might be ranking as number one in a particular keyword today but can rank below number 10 another week . this is why it is important that you should always research and try to improve on your search engine optimisation the way the algorithm is changing.

2. Retention matters . There are some people that are not really bothered about the minutes that a customer spend on their website provided that they have clicked the link . This is not good because in as much as you are offering penetration you are not really posting things that the customer likes which is the most important thing.

I have known about SEO for the past 10 years, I have been doing SEO for at least 8 years. All these years, the search algorithm has remained almost the same. The factors that helped you to rank your website and content in 2012 still work. For example, the relevancy of original content, original content, unique content, high traffic keywords, quality banklinks etc. are still the search engine ranking factors. The only difference is related to result. In 2012, you could easily rank on number 1 because competition was not fierce and now it is very difficult to rank number 1 due to the stiff competition.

Using low quality or copied content is the common mistakes people make with SEO.

You really have to keep up with the changes that search engines make to their algorithm if you want to consistently rank at the top. It's not easy to do so manually and many newbies or those trying to cost costs attempt doin it this way. There are tools that you pay for which can simplify your work, as they've done all the research for you. I made this mistake and will not repeat it again.

Another common mistake as you said is not caring about retention and reading time. This is one factor that is always constant with search engines as longer reading times shows significant interest in the post. It also helps as people who stick around will generally read more articles they find helpful before leaving, and may come back if needed or refer others to your site.
