To begin with, a successful career in sales and marketing necessitates the combination of various skills, knowledge and experience. Here are some guidelines that will help you:

1. You must develop a deep understanding of your target market and customers. One needs to know their demands, longings and pain points so that the sales and marketing strategies can be adjusted accordingly.

2. Keep building up your communication skills and ways of creating relationships. Sales, as well as marketing departments require good communication skills for connecting well with existing and prospective clients for trust purposes.

3. Be aware about the latest industry trends, technologies, best practices etc. For this purpose attend seminars, read trade journals or magazines in addition to interacting with other sales/marketing people.

4. Be persistent and resilient when it comes to making sales calls or conducting other types of marketing activities where rejection is part of the game until success is achieved—this is quite important—since once you face such situations it’s important to pick yourself up quickly.

5. Success in sales requires dedication towards personal development at work; thus one should cultivate hard work habits while continuing to learn new things every day.

One may follow these steps as a way forward in his journey of being committed towards his/her self-growth both in personal life and professionally too.

To build a career in sales and marketing you have to develop your mental skills and become tough, you should learn how to deal with rejection and also how to do better at convincing people and negotiation, it's important else you'll end up getting sacked because you can't sale to anyone.

There are books that can help you get started in sales but nothing beats hands on experience, so you can go and take a job at a car dealership as a sales am and try hands on selling, in three months you can make tremendous progress and from there you can branch out and start your career properly.
