You can give out to your community by anchoring events, voluntary services and more, with this you can expose a positive story about you to them. They surely find a way of getting you that publicity.

Suppliers and Retailers

You can encourage businesses you have good rapports with to publish your contents on their "listings" section. It won't harm them.

I do not try to manually build backlinks because most of the manual backlink methods are frowned upon my Google and other search engines. For example, guest posting is one of the most common ways to build backlink, but guest posting in a method to manipulate backlinks. Another popular method is link exchange, and this method is also not liked by search engines. You need to opt for organic backlinks. Organic backlinks means someone sharing your website and post link on their own website because they find your content interesting and valuable. When you are manually building link, make sure to use high authority sites.
