Receptionist receives visitors at an organisation and direct them to the respective offices. Also receive telephone calls and switches/directs them to the appropriate office/person. Here are some role :
a) Operates the telephone and the switchboard.
b) Receiving and directing visitors to their respective destinations.
c) Taking and passing messages.
d) Making appointments.
e) Keeping visitor's book.
f) Supervising messengers and porters.
g) Keeping simple records.
h) Distributing handbooks, newspapers and magazines.
i) Addressing envelopes.

A receptionist in an organisation is very important because they handle so many things.The duties of a receptionist will include answering potential customers enquiries about the company and the business products and services, directing visitors to the department or unit that they are going, sorting and handing out mails, answering incoming calls on telephones. When the needs arrives for certain provisions he or she act in accordance with the instructions giving to them.Although some tasks are common to most receptionists, their specific responsibilities vary depending on their work establishment.
