The need for emergency worker

During the Christmas season here when business is booming it is common for big businesses to hire emergency workers. Take the case of the mall that is so busy with the decorations and the influx of customers they would be needing more workers and security personnel. However, those workers are hired for the duration of the season which makes them emergency personnel.

Most of the emergency workers have no substantial work experience and usually they work as temps only. A temp is a worker hired for 5 months maximum. After that specified period in the work contract the temp has no more job. The emergency worker also falls in that category which means they have no security of tenure that even the law is specific on that. Maybe the best solution for the issue of the emergency workers and temps is for the government to have a pool of workers that they can supply the companies who need temps. That way the temps would somehow have a continuous job.

We have a similar situation here in our country and these people are known as daily wagers and many are migrant workers. They make a considerable part of the population and fall under unstructured employment. Working in an unstructured way, they are devoid of many benefits and job security like people employed in structured sectors like job security, pension after retirement etc. And these were the people that were badly hit by the pandemic.
Our government has few good schemes like MENREGA in our country. And now they have started making a database of these people with their id proofs so that they can be offered work opportunities whenever something is available. Work is in progress but still, a lot needs to be done.
These are unskilled people but their skills is flexible and can be used in many sectors when needed be it road construction or any such project. Many of these migrant labourers lost their daily earnings in pandemic. A good part of them were hired by state government in mask making,
