As a blogger, I often encounter spam comments, even though spam comments don't only happen to bloggers but will also be found on sites that provide column comments. Also we often encounter spam comments also found on social media and forum sites.

What is Comment Spam?
Comment spam is all comments that are not related to the main topic of content or posts (off topic), and are often accompanied by links or short links, posting the same comment many times on different posts is also spam. Comments that are too short of only three words are also considered spammers, so it's better to delete them from your blog.

What is the Purpose of Comment Spammers?
They have different purposes, such as backlinks to promote their sites, products, make money from shorten urls etc. It is more dangerous if the spammer contains fraud (phishing) and to spread viruses.

The bad effects of comment spam
  • Annoying visitors and other members (on the forum site)
  • Become a burden or slow loading a blog, site and forum site.
  • Lowering reputation in search engines or lowering page rank.
  • Penalty, Google may block your blog/site from search engines if too much comment spam is allowed.

Spam warning on forum site
If you read the terms and rules, all forum sites will prohibit and give warnings if members spam comments. Some forum sites also implement the akismet plugin which can filter and differentiate comment spam.
