Extension principles are fundamental tools, constituent that guide the conduct of extension work, they are fundamental guide which differentiate extension from non exention work. Certain basic principles underline the conduct of extension work. These principles differs with respect to the kind of community in which extension education is carried on.
Extension workers therefore should endeavor to follow democratic method in dealing with farmers. Extension principles have been define as guide line for the conduct of extension work.
These principles include the following
1. Extension work should start where the people are. That is extension should start at the level where the people are. That is at their level of understanding, knowledge, interest and degree of readiness. In other to be able to assist the people to move to higher level of aspiration.
2. Extension should be based at the need and interest of the people which are closely related to improving their livelihood through improving farm production and their physical environment. It is therefore imperative to conceptualized the basic needs of the people in the rural setup.
3. Extension should assist farmers to determine their own problem, help them find desirable solution and encourage them to take action.
4. People have unsatisfy wants. An extension agent can not go far with people unless they want to help themselves.
