This is a very common type of business that we see in streets. Alot of people operating such stores are making a fairly stable profits.
A pharmacy retail store will always thrive in an area with large population especially in rural communities or suburbs of the city. Alot of people would want to save themselves the stress and the time of going to queue up at the general hospitals, so instead they visit local pharmacy outlets for their medications. Especially in tropical Africa where there is a high rate of malaria infection during the hot seasons, alot of pharmacy retail stores are always filled up with people during evenings. So, you might need one or two attendants to assist you in answering the customers.
In some cases, if your store is reputable, hospitals might even refer patients to go purchase drugs and some antibiotics from you. So, before venturing into this trade, it is very important for you to have a very thorough and vast knowledge of a wide variety of drugs so that your customers would have a high level of confidence in you, knowing that they can always trust you with their health problems. And even in the short run, you could be making huge sales daily and might be able to reach sales of seventy thousand Naira to a hundred and fifty thousand Naira depending on how big your store is. This also means that after sometimes, you can always open other drug retail outlets as your business expands.

Your research about the business is 90% accurate. Pharmacy stores are outlet that offers the sales of drugs and supplements in a large quantity, more like selling to retailers in whole sale price. Not forgetting that a pharmacy store can not be operated by just anyone, the business owner must have studied and received certificate in a tertiary institution.

Opening a pharmacy isn't an easy task you must either be a learned pharmacist or you might have undergo some sort of training in a large pharmacy store. Cause the pharmaceutical line of business is very broad though there is a lot of profit associated with one been a wholesaler supplying to those retail outlet and final consumer. Though as time goes on your would have supply from different location outside your demographic location

Many uncertified people have started this business before and ended up closing it down because of the trouble they constantly face the government health regulating body and the pharmaceutical association. The best way to do this business without any issue is to register under the appropriate bodies and acquire a license to operate. Despite you still have to continually pay some annual due to renew your membership.

You are very correct, in the past most people opened pharmacy outlets without getting a permit from the relevant agencies but it's no longer business as usual for them. The government are trying their best to curtail the sales of fake drugs amongst these pharmacy outlets. It pertinent that pharmacy retail outlets have a quality control unit in order to ensure the drugs the sell is genuine.

Opening a pharmacy retail outlet is lucrative and you can even get to add other things like the sale of health gadgets like blood pressure checker, glucometer for checking blood level, stethoscopes, etc. You can be the direct supplier to a hospital also and supply them drugs. You will however have to ensure you don't sell fake drugs to avoid being arrested by NAFDAC or NDLEA.

You are right sister. I was forgetting that. Infact there are alot of dishonest traders who engage in sharp practices by dealing in the sales of drugs. Some of them don't even mind buying tonnes of expired drugs or drugs close to expiry. They repackage these drugs and sell it to unsuspecting buyers. This has happened in the past and it led to terrible and unfortunate deaths of people especially young children. I remember the time of former DG of NAFDAC, Mrs Dora akunyili where alot of these unscrupulous elements were apprehended.

A pharmacy in the suburban or rural town is good if there is no competition. However, in our country a pharmacy outlet is required to be manned by a licensed pharmacist. You cannot just operate like an ordinary store because what you are selling are medicines. A mistake can be fatal so a pharmacist should supervise the selling.
