While we would largely blame lack of self discipline if individuals for impulse buying, marketers cannot be excused from this financial anomaly. Marketers are trained to sell products and their aim is to sell to you regardless of whether you are buying it on impulse or not. Below are ways to know marketing tactics that would trigger you buy products on impulse.

1) Limited Time Offers: When a marketer tells you that they are doing promo that would soon expire and the product woud shoot up in price, they want you to run helter skelter to buy that products without thinking. Learn to calm down. It is not the end of the world of the promo ends.

2) Limited edition: A marketer tells you that this version, model or version of the product is limited in the market. They want you to pay instantly so that you would not miss out. It is mostly a marketing gimmick. They don't produce the best version to be limited in supply.

Always stay calm no matter how much a marketer elicits urgency when trying to sell a product to you.

Business exist because they need to sell, however, as a customers, you do not have to fall into their traps. You should identify your needs and wants. What do you need and what you want are two different things. You need to pay your rent, you want a new pair of shoes (despite you already have a couple of shoes that are in perfect conditions). If you can identify between what is essential and what is non essential, you can easily stop being a spendthrift.
