Well, Change.org keeps coming with some or the other petitions every hour. And most of them might not be successful as they are not based on logic. Anyone can use the platform to run a campaign. But a very few succeed because they are in right frame.
If one is earning, one has to pay taxes no matter what is the mode of income. The same rule should be applied to cryptos. India has still not made it's point clear about the legality of cryptos. And that's where the future of cryptos still is unclear in India. If people want it to be legalized, they should be ready to pay taxes. So maybe this can be a step towards that. However right now government is loud and clear that cryptos are still not legalised. The legal tenders would be there for only India's digital rupee which is to be launched by RBI by next fiscal year.
Many countries fear the misuse of cryptos and it's impact on economy. Even the US came with a lawsuit and Bipartisan law to tax cryptocurrency. I don't think there is anything wrong with that. Tax evasion, money laundering and terror funding are few fear of every nation and sooner or later they will find a way to deal with it or they will have to ban it.
