You rightly know you need to chart your own course. This simply means not to follow the bandwagon get to know the career you need and don't follow others.

To know your career path is to choose wisely, you need to consider the following:

Your current skills set, know your skills and your abilities

Your plan for your future regarding work. Go for a career that you would love it's employment opportunities

Put the job requirements along side your education be sure you can get there with what you intend studying. Maybe you can outline your career goals here

When I graduated from high school my father gave me the freedom to choose my college course. Before finishing college my father recommended me to take a scholarship exam in IBM Philippines. That was my first step in an IT career. My first job was as a computer programmer trainee that I didn’t like at first. But eventually it has prestige and a high salary so you can guess that I loved my job.
