Google and Bing rank the websites that are relevant to what users search. Both Google and Bing monitor how users interact with the search results, and this feedback is used to further improve their algorithm. Google and Bing both use a unique algorithm to determine the order of search results. While the exact formula is a closely guarded secret, here's what we know:
1. The position of your website within a search engine's index is based on the number and quality of pages that link to your site.
2. Google's algorithm has hundreds of elements that change regularly, with around 200 "signals" being monitored for overall performance on mobile devices alone.
3. The number of backlinks you have pointing to your page, what type of content you have on it and how much traffic you get from external and internal sources such as social media
The larger question here is: How does one improve their ranking? There are three main options:
1. Create high-quality content that attracts links,
2. Improve your page speed or user experience
3. Increase ad spend if you have an AdWords campaign.
