Having a cubicle or an open hall for the work area

In one bank there is a plan to remove the cubicles. The plan was brought about by the covid virus because the cubicle can be a contributor for the transmission of the virus. But the HR officer said that aside from the issue of the covid virus the cubicle is also a separator of people which means the employees are in isolation. The cubicle is for a certain privacy but now it is viewed as a wall to separate people.

With an open hall for the work area, you align the tables and chairs so everyone can have their own space but no walls, no cubicles to divide the employees. Maybe there is truth to that adage that Seeing will give them a feeling that they belong to the group. If you are the manager of the department or the president of a company, would you choose the cubicle or the open space for the work area of the employees? We are talking of an office and not a factory.

This is very insightful. Different things work for different people. One could view the cubicle as a material that segregates truly but some workers want it. They believe they function much better with no interference from others while some do not care. Seeing many people alone to some, they tend to lose concentration. Personally, I would choose a cubicle over open hall because with experience, open hall tend to breed gossips and workers are not hired to necessarily make intimate friends.
