Being a mason in Nigeria and job insecurity.

Masonry is a skilled trade that has been around for centuries and is still an important profession in Nigeria. Masons are skilled workers who specialize in the construction of buildings, bridges, and other structures using brick, concrete, and other materials. They are responsible for laying the foundation, building walls, and installing floors and roofs.

Despite the importance of their work, masons in Nigeria often face job insecurity. This is due to several factors, including the lack of regular work, inadequate pay, and poor working conditions. Many masons are self-employed, which means they have to constantly search for new projects to keep their income steady. This can be a challenging task, especially in a country like Nigeria where the economy is often unstable.

In addition, many masons in Nigeria do not receive fair pay for their work. They often work long hours and take on difficult tasks, but they are not compensated accordingly. This can make it difficult for them to make a living and support their families.

Furthermore, masons in Nigeria often work in dangerous conditions. They are exposed to the elements and may have to work at great heights, which can put them at risk of injury. They also may not have access to proper safety equipment, which can further increase the risk of accidents on the job.

Despite these challenges, masonry remains an important profession in Nigeria.

I once dated a guy who was a mason and the experience is better imagined than felt. First of all, they are under paid. Secondly, they are days they go to work and after working and toiling for a whole day, they are told to go home empty handed. The excuse is that the engineer can't make it to the site to come and effect payment.

Should I talk about the fact that a mason can stay up to 2 months and there would be no single call to come and work? It is better imagined than experienced. It is a job for the physically and mentally strong.
