What is Albinism? Have you heard of the term albinism? It is a type of disease in which there is a lack of pigment on the skin. This is a disease that also happens to humans, animals and plants. Due to albinism, the color of the skin becomes lighter.

What causes albinism?
Before understanding albinism, you have to understand about melanin. Melanin is a sort of substance found in our body. Our skin color is determined on the basis of how much melanin is present in our skin.

When the baby's body does not know how to produce melanin in the proper amount, then the color of the baby's hair and eyes becomes lighter. Sometimes in this disease the whole body of the child is affected - whereas - in some cases only the eyes of the child are affected.

The eyes of children affected by albinism are brown in appearance. Sometimes the eyes may appear pink or red. This is because the color of the iris of the eyes is pink or red - because the iris being transparent gives the iris of the blood vessels present in the eyes.

If your baby has a problem with albinism, then you have to take some precautions. Melanin present in the body protects the skin from sunlight. To protect yourself from the sun, when you go out in the sun, your complexion gets suppressed - this means that the melanin present in your body is working smoothly. In the absence of melanin - i.e. children affected by albinism need to be protected from the sun.

Children affected by this disease need to take special care that they do not play in the sun for a long time. Children affected by albinism should wear an appropriate amount of sunscreen whenever they go out of the house - to protect their skin from the sun's rays. Albinism may also have vision problems. Such children may need to wear glasses.
