According to the seasons, many festivals are celebrated on the soil of Uttarakhand. These festivals highlight our culture, while maintaining the traditions of the mountain, included in these special festivals, Harela is a folk festival in Uttarakhand. The word Harela means greenery. This festival comes three times in a year. First in Chait month, second in Shravan month and third and last festival of the year Harela is celebrated in Ashwin month. In Chaitra month – sown on the first day and harvested on Navami In the month of Ashwin – It is sown on the first day of Navratri in the month of Ashwin and harvested on the day of Dussehra. The people of Uttarakhand give more importance to the Harele studying in the month of Shravan because the month of Shravan is very dear to Lord Shiva. Nine days before the beginning of Savan, seeds of five or seven types of cereals are sown in a small basket by putting soil in a ring. It is protected from direct sunlight and is irrigated with water every morning. On the 9th day, their leaves are plucked with a twig and cut on the tenth day i.e. Harela. And according to the rituals, the elders of the house offer Harele to the deities after performing prayers in the morning. After that Harela is applied to all the members of the house. Harela is sown and harvested for happiness, prosperity and peace in the house. Harela is an indicator of a good harvest, Harela is sown with the wish that the crops should not be damaged this year. It is likewise accepted that the greater the Harela, the more he will profit in farming. Although Harela is sown from house to house, but in some villages, Harela festival is also celebrated collectively in the local village deity temple. Harela is sown in the temple by the people of the village. And this festival is celebrated with enthusiasm by all the people. Why is Harela celebrated in the month of Shravan special? The month of Sawan is considered one of the holy months in Hinduism. This month is dedicated to Lord Shiva. And Lord Shiva also likes this month very much. therefor this festival is celebrated in the name of Lord Shiva family. And the land of Uttarakhand is called Shiv Bhoomi (Dev Bhoomi). Because the abode of Lord Shiva is in this Devbhoomi Kailash (Himalayas). That is why Lord Shiva family is worshiped in Harele of Shravan month. The idols (Shiva, Mata Parvati and Lord Ganesha) are made of pure clay and decorated with natural colors. Where is it called in the local language. On the day of Harele, these idols are worshiped from Harele. And this festival is also celebrated as Shiva Parvati Vivah. Hope you have liked this post.
