7 Steps For Transforming Your Relationship With Money

1. Know what you want to do with your money. Are you saving for a vacation? A new car? College tuition? Maybe all of the above? Knowing where you're headed will help you make decisions about how to spend your money now.

2. Start tracking how much money you spend on things that don't matter. Whether that's a latte every morning or lunch at Chipotle every day, tracking your spending habits will help you realize that those small indulgences aren't worth it if they're costing more than they should be.

3. Stop borrowing from friends and family when you need cash. It's not fair to them or to yourself! And it doesn't make sense to borrow money when there are ways to get it without having others pay interest on it (like through credit cards). You'd be surprised at how many people have stopped doing this once they started tracking their spending and saw how much was going towards things they didn't really want or need anyway (like coffee).

4. Set up automatic payments for bills and other obligations, so that you don't have to think about them.

5. Make your savings account the default for all of your bank accounts, so that you're always paying into it instead of letting the other accounts take over.

6. Make sure you have a list of the things that are important to you, and then prioritize them in order of importance. this is your "bucket" of money, which should be fixed and stable at all times

7. Spend time with people who will support your financial goals.
