10 Strategies To Stay Ahead of The Competition.

The weirdest thing that has ever happened to me, was competing with people.

I grew up in a society where competition was fierce and powerful.

People snitched on me, stole my notes so I wouldn't come first in class.

I remembered the day I topped the class (after I had gone back to rewrite my high school final year exam, having failed it twice), every girl was surprised.

In fact, one of them came to check my test and see why I would perform better than her.

What's my point?

At every point, someone would hate to see you be the best.

So, the best way to stay ahead of the competition is to:

1. Have Clear Cut Goals: Don't get stressed out doing lots of things.

Eliminate the irrelevant many for the interesting few.

Read - Atomic Habits by James Clear.

2. Focus on YOU

Why many people fail trying to compete with others is that they use the lives of their competitors as a mirror on how good they've been.

Be troubled on making a STEP each day, not if Mr A made X step today.

3. Thank Yourself.

For every win, thank yourself.

For evey loss, find out what happened and how you can change that.

Be conscious to always give yourself a pat on the back for every win you have.

4. Do Less Achieve More

In class those days, I would study for few hours EVERYDAY and go to bed.

My friends will play EVERYDAY and burn the candle for 12 hours when the exams drew close.

Results?

I always topped the chart.

More = Less

Less with consistency = More

5. Exploit Their Weakness.

When you find what your competitor does wrong, take that stuff, build it into something perfect

Then add it to your portfolio.

Using my story as an example.

If I found out that the best student in my school studied for 12 hours but struggled at speaking good English

I would divide 12 hours into 3 parts and use one part to practice my English.

What happens?

The 2nd best student in the classroom(me) = Speaks excellently.

Who wins?

Me.

6. Practice.

Keep getting better, till you become the best.

More courses = More action.

More videos = More action.

Action is the only way to get better through practice.

7. Ask A Mentor.

There's always some genius behind the curtain, who's been in that competition mode and won.

Meet them and ask them how they did it.

Are they far from you?

Type in their name on Facebook, #linkedin, Twitter.

Follow them.

Comment consistently with VALUE in their posts.

After a while,

- Send them a DM and thank them for the value they share.

- Go straight to the point by asking, "what advice might you have for XYZ kid who's starting out in XYZ business."

It works like whatever you call it.

8. Give the BEST and be the BEST.

Abstain from doing a junk work.

Produce well.

Write well.

Everything you do, do it well.

Don't settle for less.

9. Talk to yourself.

My uncle would once told me that once in a while, he'll call himself to a meeting and review his life.

Have time set apart to think.
