Is the .xyz domain extension meant for scam sites?

I have observed that most websites using the .xyz extension are scam sites who intend to reap people of their hard earned money.
The first site that ever scammed me last year was one using this extension and the promised to pay members for watching videos. Their site address usually change often and they end up not paying me, and it taught me a great lesson to not find easy way of making money online.

Whenever I am reading threads on review sections of some paid to post websites that I am working on, I usually see topics about these kind of websites that end with .xyz and they usually get flagged as scam sites .

This now makes me to wonder if the domain extension was made for scammers, or is it the cheapest that is why they are using it?

When xyz domains were rolled out, it was being offered for $1. Therefore, a lot of people registered the domain. This extension came into prominence when Google registered xyz domain for its Alphabet company (you can check abc.xyz). Since you can buy the domain for cheap for the first year, a lot of people use this domain. Renewal is as much as a dot com domain.

No domain is meant for scam sites, there are more scam sites with .com, .biz, .net domains. While .xyz is available since 2014, it is generic and developed without any intention to use, making it less attractive. The scam sites you are talking about are HYIP sites, which are meant to turn scam, domain name is not responsible.

Lol, I really observed the same thing and I begin to make research about heed and I realise that it is because it is very cheap that is the reason why a lot of scammers are using it. There is a Ponzi scheme that used that domain extension earlier this year and a lot of people really felt for their scam. Since then I do not trust any website that uses XYZ domain extension.

You spoke well @Yugocean. No domain extension is mainly for scammers, they're built with purpose. Only that scammers use it cos its cheap, it doesn't mean it is mainly for scamming people off their hard earned money. Other extensions are still used for scams, no one is safe, scammers are simply everywhere.

Just like @Mika said, the domain may be so many because of its cheap price. And we all know that web a domain is cheap to buy, there is no way some people won't buy it to perpetuate evils. So because some people now use it for evil doesnt make us generalize that it is meant for scam just like @Yugocean concluded..com domain are also used for scam too.

Since the cheaper domains are getting themselves a bad name, scammers are taking advantage of expensive domains. For example, dot io costs $35 to register. You can see a lot of Ponzi schemes and HYIP sites using dot io domains. Does this mean dot io domains are for scam/phishing sites, definitely not!

That was what made me to also ask same question. I am really fed up with the whole thing. Even here on trendri, there are so many people posting about sites that claim to pay very high amount of money, but it is certain that they are scam sites. Most of these websites use the .xyz extension for their site address.

In the English language, it common to use xyz while you are trying to refer to a lot of things. xyz does not refer to anything particular but it can represent a lot of things (just like in mathematics). Therefore, when these domains ca,e into existence, they gained prominence. However, people began to abuse the domains

Yeah, they are really being abused and I just wish that those in authority would do the needful to limit the way this particular domain extension is being used to do a lot of fraudulent activities.
Sometimes I refuse to just join any website that is using the .xyz extension as I think any serious site owner would go for a .com extension.

I think the logic of scam sites is what @Mika had mentioned that the dot xyz domain was offered for a cheap price of $1 only. With that minimal registration fee of the domain it is attractive to scammers and spammers. Expect a huge number of registered domain that would be used for illegal activities. Perhaps dot xyz should increase the registration and renewal fee.

Not just xyz domain, a lot of domains were also offered for just $1 during the introductory phase. Even today, a lot of domains sell for a low price for the first year, for example, you can get a dot online for just $2.48 which otherwise will cost $32. You can get a dot shop domain for $1.80 but the regular price is $30.

Scammers can use all existing extensions to cart away with people's hard-earned money. Although these evil-minded people are fond of buying this type of extension to perform their illegal functions, they buy and use other extensions but in small quantity.Any website owner can scam you with any extension. So, watch out! .

Even though scammers can choose domains like "Dot com", Dot Net", etc when it comes to setting up a scam website, I have noticed that "XYZ" domains are much common when ity comes to making a scam website. Most of the "XYZ" websites are made for the paid to click website models by scammers to cheat people. The quality of such websites is not so good either.
